‘GOD CREATED MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE.’ (Genesis 1:20 -2:4)
There it is stated emphatically at the outset of the Bible: God’s
great project was to make human beings who would be like him in every possible
way. And the earth and the universe were
all made for them. If they made the
right decisions they would experience intense joy and fulfilment, so deep they
cannot be described. But there was huge
risk. They might make wrong decisions
and mess up the whole project. Well, we
know what they (we) did and we live day by day caught in this battle of our own
making, struggling to get it right. Meanwhile millions suffer and our common
home is under threat of burning up.
