THEY
DID NOT UNDERSTAND
Enter
into the stillness of God within.
Reading: He was instructing his disciples; “The Son of
Man will be delivered into the hands of
men …” .But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him.” (Mark
9:30-37)
Reflection. We are at the heart of the
matter. The “world” and what it believes
has to be confronted. The disciples were
immersed in a way of thinking which was common to everybody: you look after
yourself. Jesus says; the only way to
transform the world is to empty yourself – to go the opposite way and disrupt
the world. Instead of “saving” your life
you give your life. Instead of going with
the flow you question the flow. He goes
on to question the “upwardly mobile” ambitions of the disciples and he puts
children as their role models. No wonder
they did not understand! The question is: do we?
Prayer. Lord, help us to have your
mind; to approach each day with your eyes and heart; to try to confront the
flow when it leads away from the light. Amen
