YOU GAVE THEM TO ME

PRAYER PAUSE

Tuesday 10 May 2016

YOU GAVE THEM TO ME

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “They were yours and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.” (John 17:1-11)

Reflection. In John 17, Jesus directly addresses his Father and rejoices in the completion of his work: the Father gave him men and women who would accept his word and become followers and their work would now begin. Jesus rejoices in the founding of a community which he wants to be inclusive of all people in every time and place. We are called to recognise ourselves in this and rejoice in our following of him. We see our struggle and sense there are some among us who seem to reject God – drug dealers and human trafficers, for example, so the passion he is about to enter continues. But these are encouraging words: “you gave them to me.”

Prayer. Lord Jesus, in your final words, you pray to gather all people into the family of God. May we turn to you in hope! Amen.
