I MAY BE IN THEM

PRAYER PAUSE

Thursday 12 May 2016

I MAY BE IN THEM

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “Holy Father, … so that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and so that I may be in them.” (John 17:20-26)

Reflection. Jesus’ farewell to his friends, which spreads over four chapters in John, ends with his prayer for unity. It is a unity of his disciples with him and with one another. But the Church had to settle down to long term disunity in her history and it was only in the twentieth century that this became an ache. Up till then she dealt with it by a “them and us” approach. Today, while we feel the pain of our divisions, we also sense the diverse gifts of those with whom we are not in communion. Yet the more we are one with the Father and the Son in the Spirit the closer we come to one another.

Prayer. Lord, may we be one in you and come to communion with one another! Amen.
