SHOWN SUCH
GREAT LOVE
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “I tell you her sins, her many
sins,, must have been forgiven her or she would not have shown such great love.”
(Luke 7:36-50)
Reflection. The woman who causes such a scene in
Luke chapter 7 has experienced a deep change in herself and she cannot restrain
her love and joy. She pours out tears over the feet of Jesus. Simon, the host,
and no doubt all his guests, are embarrassed by the display. The incident captures
in a moment the whole ministry of Jesus; to heal people of their deepest pain
and share with them the joy of the gospel. The woman sums up humanity redeemed.
Prayer. Lord, as we contemplate the change you
brought about in this woman, open our hearts to the joy you offer through the
forgiveness of our sins. Amen.
