LOOK
INTO THE MATTER
Enter
into the stillness of God within.
Reading: Members of the Pharisees’ party objected … The
apostles and elders met to look into the matter.” (Acts 15:1-6)
Reflection. Athanasius was exiled by
the Emperor five times for his resistance to Arianism which split the Church in
the fourth century. Paul and Barnabas were tormented by some members of the
Pharisees who had become Christians and who insisted on circumcision. Both Paul
and Athanasius were rooted in the Vine we read about last Sunday (John 15) and
we read again today. They were able to be strong in the face of conflict. These were big issues. But we too are
confronted with “conflicts”, choices that we have to make. The most painful
ones are in relationships. “Make your home in me, as I make mine in you,” says
Jesus, and if we do we believe we will fijd a way through our conflicts – even if
it takes time and some pain.
Prayer. Lord, help us to be rooted
in you so that we may face our
challenges with faith and trust. Amen
