ASK
AND YOU WILL RECEIVE
Enter
into the stillness of God within.
Reading: “Ask and you will receive, and so your joy
will be complete.” (John 16:23-28)
Reflection. As a mother looks for a
response in her new born child God looks for a response from us, whom he has
made in his own image. Let us not “tame” this invitation – “ask and you will
receive”. It is a serious one. People
often want to solve their difficulties, in a marriage relationship, for
example. But they pray asking that the
solution will be the one they want! They
find it hard to be open to ”the solution” which may be quite different from
what they want. We do not ask
unconditionally and we do not ask persistenly and with all our being. And we end by saying, ‘God does not answer.’
He does not answer on our conditions.
There is much to purify when we
say “Ask and you will receive.”
Prayer. Lord, help us to desire
with purity of heart.. Amen
