FEELING THEIR WAY

PRAYER PAUSE

FEELING THEIR WAY

Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading:  “And he did this so that all nations might seek the deity and, by feeling their way towards him, succeed in finding him.” (Acts 17:15…18:1)

Reflection. Paul addresses the Athenians, not by starting with a Jewish introduction, but by recognising the value of their rational searching for “the Unknown God”.  He holds their attention while he develops this theme but when he begins to speak of Jesus and the essential breakthrough Jesus made by rising from the dead they lose him. They cannot follow him in making their own breakthrough to faith.  They are too rooted in their philosophy.  Paul leaves them and moves on to Corinth. It is a unique moment when Paul enters by their door but they fail to come out through his.  It can happen that we too pursue a search for meaning but then get tired and turn away. Take dreams, for example; they have been called “the royal road to the unconscious”.  Yet I know for myself I have not taken that road.  Yet it is important we be not only in touch with our conscious self but also what is unconscious in us.

Prayer. Lord, help us walk those roads we would prefer not to travel.but which could help us reach you more wholesomely  Amen
