THERE IS ONE
WHO SENT ME
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “I have not come of myself: no,
there is one who sent me and I really come from him.” (John 7:1…30)
Reflection. John holds two opposites in tension.
Jesus is the “one sent” by the Father and all his words and signs are a
manifestation of this. He invites people to believe so that they may have life,
life to the full. Many do believe and some intensely so, like Mary of Bethany
or the man born blind or Joseph of Arimathea. But the dominant response from “the
Jews” is one of hostility and rejection. These two poles are going to
crash and destroy him. Scourged and
crowned with thorns Jesus will be shown to the people by Pilate with the words,
“This is the man!” And we know this is
the Man, the glory of Israel and the light for the gentiles, whom we reverence
in this tempo forte approaching
Easter.
Prayer. Lord, we reverence you as we
approach Holy Week. Amen.
