COME TO MY HELP

PRAYER PAUSE

Thursday 9 March 2017

COME TO MY HELP

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “”My Lord, our King, the only one, come to my help for I am alone.” (Esther 4:17)

Reflection. Esther is a symbol of weakness, as she approaches the king who, with a word, could destroy the Jews. She trembles but she pleads with God and finds the courage to go through with her mission. Pedro Arrupe, Fr General of the Jesuits in the 1960s and 70s, called us not just to meet and discuss issues but to spend a good chunk of the meeting in prayer. I am not sure if we do this but the message is clear: we still rely so much on ourselves to solve our problems. We fail to reach out to God with the earnestness of Esther to come to our help.

Prayer. Lord, help us to reach out to you in our need – not in a functional way – but with a great desire that you heal us. Amen.
