CHOOSE LIFE
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “Choose life, then, so that you and your
descendants may live in the love of the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 30:15-20)
Reflection. When Jesus appears at the opening of
John’s gospel and first meets people interested in him, he asks them, “What do
you want?” I suppose it is the most fundamental question we ask ourselves. Many
have few choices they can make in life. Others have many. But we know there is
a deeper choice than career or even marriage: it is the choice of what sort of
person I want to be. Lent is a time to look hard at my choices and see how I
live them. Jesus later elaborated on his question. He said, “If anyone wants to
be a follower of mine let them renounce themselves and take up their cross
every day and follow me.”
Prayer. Lord, help
us to choose the way of life you invite us to; life to the full. Amen.
