“WHY
SO SURPRISED?”
Enter
into the stillness of God within.
Reading: When Peter saw the people
he addressed them, “Why are you so surprised at this? Why are you staring at us
as though we had made this man walk by our own power?” (Acts 3:11-26)
Reflection. Jesus too is astonished in
the gospel: “Why are you so agitated, and why are these doubts arising in your
hearts?” It is clear the early Church just could not believe what was happening
before their eyes. It has been said, the hardest thing to take - after bad news
- is good news! They just can’t believe the
kinghom of God has finally come; it is breaking into the world and God is fulfilling
all the ancient hopes and longings of humanity. Can we put ourselves there? Can
we believe that God is breaking through to us in the midst of our worries, our
doubts, our unbelief?. The more we cultivate and welcome the coming of Jesus
into our daily life the more we are “surprised by joy”, surprised by how he works
to bring all things to completion.
Prayer. Lord, open our hearts to
understand your coming into our lives.
Break down the barriers that block us from welcoming your approach. Amen
