THE PEOPLE WERE ALL IN TEARS

PRAYER PAUSE

Thursday 5 October 2017

THE PEOPLE WERE ALL IN TEARS

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “Ezra read from the Law of God and the people understood… and were all in tears as they listened.” (Nehe, miah 8:1-12)

Reflection. The scene is the court of the newly rebuilt temple after the return from the exile and the leaders of the people are reminding them of the covenant and the promises of God. They are in tears as they realise the disaster their infidelity has brought on them. But they are tears also of joy as they sense, perhaps for the first time, the love and tenderness of their God. It was the joy of the prodigal son’s return to the open arms of his father. It is the joy of a moment of reconciliation in families or between nations. And it is the joy that we have known in our own life when we experienced reconciliation with someone close to us. And it is our joy and consolation at the foregiveness and love of God in our lives

Prayer. Lord, may people everywhere come to know you, our God, who are always ready with open arms to welcome the one who comes to him. Amen.
