PRAYER PAUSE

KEEP
TRUTH IMPRISONED
Pause. Enter into the stillness
of God within.
Reading: “The anger of God has been
revealed against … all those who keep truth imprisoned… for what can be known
about God is perfectly plain.” (Romans 1:16-25)
Reflection. Paul, echoing a theme in the
gospels, convicts those who resist the truth because it is inconvenient. He is
telling the cultured Romans that God had prepared the way for the fullness of
revelation in Jesus by offering us evidence in the world around us of his existence.
But people have resisted what is clear to eye and ear. Americans today, reading
and hearing the flow of words from their president, are aware his
interpretation of the world fits his own views. It does not accord with the facts.
Truth is inconvenient and does not bring in votes. Daniel Moynihan warns, “You
are entitled to your opinion but you are not entitled to your own facts.” We
cannot make up facts just because they fit what we want.
Prayer. Lord, give us the courage
to understand and live the truth of each situation. Amen.
