THE BREAD

PRAYER PAUSE

Tuesday, 2 May 2017, St Athanasius

THE BREAD

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry; the one who believes in me will never thirst.” (John 6:3-35).

Reflection. Bread, food, nourishment, daily needs, communion, union. The word begins with a common meaning; the substance is available in shops and stores. Then it opens out that meaning to include the full dimension of our human journey. The Jews stopped at the first meanings and so do many, perhaps most. Yet, conveyed in that simple human word, there is the mystery of our destiny and our happiness.

Prayer. Lord, give us this day our daily bread.  Amen.
