DRAWN BY THE
FATHER
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “No one can come to me unless he is
drawn by the Father who sent me.” (John 6: 44-51).
Reflection. In no particular order we find that
some parts of John’s gospel are more suitable for the time before the Passion
and death of Jesus, while others after. This section refers to the life and
nourishment of the early Church. Many, like the Ethiopian in Acts 8, were experiencing
the “drawing”, or attraction, of the Father to Jesus and the faith of the early
community. In fact, today, we find some are “drawn” to faith whereas for others
there is nothing like faith. Their life is filled with concern for survival or,
in some cases, enjoyment of power and wealth. It is hard to understand this
drawing. Why are some unaware of the gentle voice of the Spirit in their hearts?
If we are aware, let us rejoice.
Prayer. Lord, help us to be attentive to
the gentle drawing of the Father. Amen.
