IF I CAN ONLY TOUCH

PRAYER PAUSE

Monday 4 July 2016

IF I CAN ONLY TOUCH

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “If I can only touch his cloak I will be well again.” (Matt 9:18-26)

Reflection. Matthew, and Mark, bracket this incident of the woman - making her way through the crowd and touching the hem of Jesus’ garment - with the story of the raising of Jairos’ daughter. That event is introduced, the dropped for a while and finally taken up again. Why? Perhaps to underline the centrality of that woman’s courage and faith. It is one thing to pray for others, even one’s own daughter, but quite another to take your own life in your hands, face your own “uncleanness” and do something about it. Perhaps we are good at praying for things “out there,” but not so insistent on facing our own inner work?

Prayer. Lord, help us to face our own inner weakness and fragility and turn it into a cry for your healing and mercy. Amen
