YOUR SORROW WILL BE TURNED INTO JOY

PRAYER PAUSE

Thursday 5 May 2016

YOUR SORROW WILL BE TURNED INTO JOY

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “You will be weeping and wailing while the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.” (John 16:16-20)

Reflection. Turning sorrow into joy could mean joy comes after sorrow. But it could also mean that the two become one: in the midst of sorrow there is an underlying joy. In the castle of Xavier in Spain there is a crucifix and Jesus on the cross is smiling. There is sorrow, yes, great sorrow in so many of our lives. We cannot brush that away. But interwoven with that sorrow there is the joy of of the gospel: that all will be well, that all will turn out for the best, that we are on our way to a joy we cannot imagine.

Prayer. Lord, strengthen us on our journey with the deep joy that you alone can give. Amen
