BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER KNOWN

PRAYER PAUSE

Monday 2 May 2016, St Athanasius

BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER KNOWN

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “They will do these things because they have never known either the Father or myself.” (John 15:26-16:4)

Reflection. We spend years acquiring knowledge of facts and processes. We think and we make judgements. We come to know people; what entrances us and what repels. And then there is God. What is it to know him? How did Athanasius come to insist on him despite being exiled from Alexandria five times? It is a knowledge a person is willing to die for; a knowledge that works its way into the fibre, a knowledge that becomes indistinguishable from love. We are good people and we rush about. Perhaps we would be even better people if we stopped awhile to seek this knowledge.

Prayer. Lord, may we know you so that we come to love you and follow you.. Amen
