SCATTERING AND GATHERING

PRAYER PAUSE

Monday 9 May 2016

SCATTERING AND GATHERING

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “Do you believe at last? … You will be scattered.” (John 16:29-33)

Reflection. In the early church baptism was often a prelude to martyrdom. As soon as a person was welcomed into the community they were aware of entering a charged atmosphere. The election of the Jewish people as the people of God soon led to exile and suffering. To become a Christian is to enter the fray; to engage with the forces that seek to destroy. They are more subtle than martyrdom today but I think we can agree our global culture waxes and wains with forces building us up and others pulling us down. The Spirt is given to help us discern our way forward.

Prayer. Lord, may we always attend to the Spirit in our hearts in the choices that we make at every moment of the day. Amen
