KEEP THEM TRUE TO YOUR NAME

PRAYER PAUSE

Wednesday 11 May 2016

KEEP THEM TRUE TO YOUR NAME

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “Holy Father, keep those you have given me true to your name, so that they may be one like us.” (John 17:11-19)

Reflection. Keeping “true to your name” can be like a sailing ship battling head winds! Paul in the first century and Daniel Berrigan in the last battled all their lives to be true to the cross. Paul boasted of his sufferings as he knew they were a sign of his fidelity. Berrigan’s protests against the use of violence brought him countless arrests. Many of us have an easier time but the cross stands as the measure of our “keeping true.” In today’s other reading (Acts 20:28-38) the Ephesian elders are in tears as they hear Paul’s farewell message about being “on your guard” and keeping true.

Prayer. Lord, may we remain true to you even when we face pain and sorrow. Amen.
