BY FEELING
THEIR WAY TOWARDS HIM
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “He did this so that all nations
might seek the deity and, by feeling their way towards him, succeed in finding
him.” (Acts 17:15 ff)
Reflection. Paul addresses the Athenians on their
own ground, praising their attempts to find God through reason. They go with
him part of the way but stumble when the resurrection is mentioned. We may feel
we have gone all the way, but have we? We too are feeling our way no matter how
“comfortable” we may be in our faith. I am reflecting this week on the death of
Dan Berrigan at 95, a man who stood out in his anti-war witness. But he would
be the first to admit that he was “feeling his way” throughout his life.
Prayer. Lord, help us to search for you in
all the complexities of our life. Let us not be too sure we have found you. Amen
