WITH
ALL YOUR HEART
Enter
into the stillness of God within.
Reading: “You must love the Lord with all your heart,
with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. You must love your neighbour as yourself.” (Mark
12:28-34)
Reflection. This emphatic command to
Israel is now endorsed and fulfilled in Jesus. The repeated “with alls” reinforce
the concentration of the whole person towards God in love, that is, in an
absorption and desire to be united with God in the conviction that God is not
only the meaning of all things but the completion of all human longing. And
since we are wrapt up in this thrust towards God with others our embrace includes
them, not as an optional extra, but as a constituent part of our love. Without love for others love for God is just
empty words. So, this saying, so central to Jewish faith, is also central to us.
Indeed every faith expresses this
orientation each in its own way.
Prayer. Lord, teach us to live out
our desire to love you with all our heart and all others as an integrated part
of that one love for you Amen
