NEITHER THE SCRIPTURES NOR THE POWER OF GOD

PRAYER PAUSE

Wednesday 6 June 2018, St Norbert

NEITHER THE SCRIPTURES NOR THE POWER OF GOD

Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading:  “’Is not the reason why you go wrong  that you understand neither the scriptures nor the power of God.” (Mark 12:18-27)

Reflection. Now it is the Sadducees’ turn to ask a trick question. Like the Pharisees they are not interested in understanding Jesus.  They just want to get the better of him.  They pose  a silly question about  a woman marrying seven brothers in turn.  Jesus is blunt with them: they may be religious leaders but they do not have a clue about God and his purpose.  Yet we cannot be self-satisfied and say, “Ah, but we know” Do we?  Do we understand the purpose of God in our lives?  Our whole task as followers of Jesus is to come to know him. Fr Sosa, General of the Jesuits, was asked on Canadian TV the other day about this purpose. Almost repeating Fr Arrupe, an earlier general, he said, “It is to fall in love with Jesus.”  It is to have Jesus totally at the centre of our lives.  Then we simply can’t go wrong.

Prayer. Lord, teach us to place you at the centre of all that we do.  Help us to seek to know and love you.  Amen
