THEY WILL BROWSE

PRAYER PAUSE

Friday 3 June 2016. The Sacred Heart of Jesus

THEY WILL BROWSE

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “They will browse in rich pastures on the mountains of Israel.” (Ezekiel 34:11-16)

Reflection. Once in Dublin I saw a picture of a child dying of TB. The father stands sad and pensive; the mother sits bent, her head on the bed, distraught. The scene is filled with suffering and despair. Today’s feast remembers the love of God revealed in the heart of Jesus: his delight at seeing us explore his creation – “browsing on the mountains” – and his suffering with us at seeing “the whole of creation groaning in labour pains” (Romans 8:22). In this Year of Mercy and compassion we rejoice in the creative work of people and we seek to reach out to those in despair and suffering.

Prayer. Lord, we ask for a heart like yours, full of searching and delight in your world and full of compassion for those who suffer. Amen
