GIVE TO
CEASAR
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “Give to Ceasar what belongs to
Ceasar – and to God what belongs to God.” (Mark 12:13-17).
Reflection. The intention f the Pharisees is to
trap Jesus in an argument which they are sure they will win. Jesus blows the
process asunder by ignoring the argument and challenging them on another level.
He moves the question back to them as every good teacher does. How often
learning comes - not from the teacher
telling us the answer but – from their pushing us to think for ourselves. And
our Church is gradually moving out of the position where she claims to have all
the answers to the problems of our time and is asking us think and act
responsibly. Amoris Laetitiae, the Joy of
Love, is a dramatic example. It even has some cardinals fluttering.
We carry our
treasure in earthen vesels, Lord, help us to approach our life with reverence,
determination and patience. Amen.
Prayer. Lord, help us to open our hearts
to those we would not naturally welcome. Amen.
