GET UP!

PRAYER PAUSE

Wednesday 2 November 2016, All Souls

GET UP!

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “Young man, I tell you to get up.” (Luke 7;11-17)

Reflection. It is a long tradition to remember the dead especially on this day. Proof of this is written in stone in the medieval College of All Souls, Oxford. But our readings today don’t emphasise death but life. Isaiah tells us that every tear will be wiped away and Paul that we are filled with hope. In the gospel Jesus is moved by the suffering of the widow losing her only child and simply says to the boy being carried out for burial, “Get up!” The widows of Syria today are in deep mourning and we cannot do more than sit by them in our hearts and mourn too. But underlying all this pain is the Christian message of hope – and joy.
.

Prayer. Lord, help us to believe that you are the Resurrection and the life. Amen
