THEY WERE FURIOUS

PRAYER PAUSE

Monday 5 September 2016, John Bradburne anniversary 1979

THEY WERE FURIOUS

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “His arm was restored. But they were furious and began to discuss the best way of dealing with Jesus.” (Luke 6:6-11)

Reflection. The blindness that pervades the gospel seems strange to us. Why could they not see that Jesus had come to free people from darkness and lead them into the light of God? They are furious because he challenges their agenda. Restoring sight in the gospels is always a sign of the in-breaking kingdom but then, as now, they resist. There is fury in Syria and Zimbabwe when someone tries to question why things are the way they are. Could they not be different? Such a question provokes a furious response. In our own small way we are each called to be open to the challenges of the gospel revealed in the details of our daily life.

Prayer. Lord, enable us to welcome your healing touch in the challenges that face us each day.  Amen
