PRAYER PAUSE
Friday 2
September 2016 (back in internet range)
NEW WINE,
NEW SKINS
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “No; new wine must be put into fresh
skins.” (Luke 5:33-39)
Reflection. The constant repetition of the images
and parables of Jesus prods us to remember that the gospel is constantly
announcing something new. In Zimbabwe at the moment those with power are trying
to hold on to it without appearing to have any thought for what the country
could be if they would open the door to the new wine of the huge educated and
energetic class of younger people ready and eager to engage. This same passage
ends, “no one who has been drinking old wine wants new. The old is good,” they
say.
Prayer. Lord, help
us to work for what is fresh and the new. Amen
