STAND
OUT IN THE MIDDLE
Enter
into the stillness of God within.
Reading: “Jesus said to the man with
the withered hand, ‘Stand up out in the middle!’ Then he said to them, ‘Is it
against the law on the Sabbath day to do good?’ (Mark 3:1-6)
Reflection. It is only chapter 3 and
yet the battle lines are already drawn. Jesus is amazed at their resistance to
the good news, so he provokes a confrontation. “Is it against the Torah, the
teaching of the Lord Moses bequeathed to Israel, to do good, to heal, to release
people from bondage, on the Sabbath?”. They said nothing, The answer was
obvious but they would not say it. And then Jesus, “grieved to find them so
obstinate, looked angily round at them” and healed the man. The Pharisees went
out and began to plot the way to Calvary.
Prayer. Lord, how strange are our
ways! We see the good we should do but do something else. Heal our blindness
and help us accept your healing good news. Amen
