WHO ARE YOU?

PRAYER PAUSE

Monday 2 January 2017,  Basil and Gregory

WHO ARE YOU?

Pause. Enter into the stillness of God within.

Reading: “The Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask John, “Who are you?” He declared. “I am not the Christ.” (John 1:19-28)

Reflection. Did “the Jews” really want to know? Or did they, like Herod in the story of the Innocents, see a threat? Had they already decided what to do? Or were they genuinely open to what might be? It is a question for us. It is a question for others – like the leaders of Zimbabwe today– but it is also a question for each of us. Do I want new information to fit into my own world view or am I open to something new? Mary gives us a great example. She pondered. She had no answers. She waited. But in the meantime she gave her whole energy to fulfilling the part she had been given and accompanied Jesus on his way.

Prayer. Lord, help us to live fully amidst the tension of not knowing all the answers while, at the same time, being genuine seekers. Amen.
