AN INDESTRUCTIBLE
LIFE
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “There appears a second Melchizedek,
who is a priest not by virtue of a law about physical descent, but by the power
of an indestructible life.” (Hebrews 7:1-5, 15-17)
Reflection. Our gospel today (Mark 3:1-6)
speaks of the Pharisees “discussing how to destroy him” and this reading from
Hebrews tells us of his “indestructible life.” Both are true in that the leaders
do succeed in “destroying” Jesus but Jesus is “indestructible.” Hebrews
develops the theme of Jesus as priest as one offering himself totally so that
others may have life. His invitation is to us all to join him in this offering.
All who are with him share in his priesthood. And it is through this offering
of self that we become truly like him, truly human – and divine.
Prayer. Lord, help
us to share in your offering of yourself for the world. Amen
