MERCY WAS
SHOWN ME
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “Mercy, however, was shown me,
because until I became a believer I had been acting in ignorance; and the grace
of our Lord filled me with faith and with the love that is in Christ Jesus.” (1
Timothy 1:1…14)
Reflection. This mention of mercy catches my eye
for it is virtually the motto of Pope Francis, Chosen in Mercy – or words to that effect. Like St Paul he
experienced the love of God touching him and choosing him. We know that he has
made mercy a mark of his ministry and has now declared a Jubilee year of Mercy
and kicked off the year with a sign: he has made it easier for people trapped
in a marriage, that was not based on real mutual consent, to have their union
annulled, that is, declared to have never existed from the beginning. The Lord
knows us and loves us as we are and reaches out to us calling us to love and
the serve.
Prayer. Lord, help us to know your love,
tenderness and mercy towards us and give us courage to reach out to others as
you do to us. Amen.
