OF COURSE I WANT TO! (Mark
1:40-45)
This is the spontaneous reaction of Jesus to the man who asked to
be cured of his leprosy with the words, ‘If you want to, you can cure me.’ We sometimes add a further question to the
dialogue imaging Jesus saying, ‘I want to, but do you?’ There is no doubt about
the desire of God to heal the wounds of people and to cure our planet. The only problem is do we really want him to
or are we just saying the words? We make our petitions and we have ‘Days of
Prayer’ but are our hearts where our words are?
Or do we think by just asking God for something we have done our
bit. Prayer is a whole shifting of our
being so that we back up our words with the commitment of our lives. There will be no healing till that shift
takes place. And there will be lots of
healing when it does. That will be the
day we hear with joy the words, ‘Of course I want to.’
