PRAYER PAUSE

THEY WOULD
NOT ACCEPT HIM
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “Where did he get this wisdom? …
This is the carpenter’s son. His brothers and sisters are here…And they would
not accept him.” (Matthew 13:54-58)
Reflection. The rejection of Jsus by his home
town prefigured his rejection by the whole nation. There would be exceptions
and many would come to believe. But the line between acceptance and rejection
would always be there. It runs through our own hearts. We know too well that
there are times when we welcome Jesus and sing, “Alleluia! Welcome to the Son
of David!” And then there are other times where we just cannot meet what it costs.
“Why are these things happening to me,” we ask. At such times we do not accept
him.
Prayer. Lord Jesus, give us hearts to welcome
your coming “in good times and in bad.” Amen.
