PRAYER PAUSE
Tuesday 4 April 2017
MANY
CAME TO BELIEVE
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “When you have lifted up
the Son of Man then you will know that I am He …As was saying this, many came
to believe in him.” (John 8:21-30)
Reflection. It is enigmatic. Jesus’
mission seems to have ground to a halt with the Jews. He has reached an
impasse; “You will die in your sins.” Then he suddenly says these words about
his being “lifted up” with the echo of Moses lifting up the bronze serpent in
the desert. ‘When you do this then you will know that I am He’ – an echo of God’s
revelation to Moses in the burning bush, “I am”. “Many” make the connection and
believe in him. So, in all the gloom of the approaching passion, there is this
repeated note of belief shining through all the obstinacy and suffering.
Prayer. Lord, we are confused and
blocked at times. Help us raise up our hearts to you, our suffering Lord, and
believe. Amen.
