2015: The Presentation of Mary
THE WILL OF
MY FATHER
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “Anyone who does the will of my
Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Matt 12:46-50)
Reflection. An ancient tradition in the sixth
century Church in Jerusalem celebrated the Presentation of Mary in the temple
as a little girl giving her whole life to God. Her words, “Let it be done to me”,
show this. So when people come and tell Jesus, “Your mother and brothers want
to see you,” he reacts spontaneously: the key thing in her life is not that she
is my mother but that she has so embraced the Father’s will. That gives me more
joy than any human relationship. And he incorporated it into the prayer he gave
us; “May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven!”
Prayer. Lord, may your will be the compass
and ground rock of our being! Amen.
