THE SON OF MAN
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “I saw, coming on the clouds of
heaven, one like a son of man.” (Daniel 7: 2-14)
Reflection. We conclude the Church’s year with a
selection of the adventures and visions of Daniel. The title ‘son of man’ is
used by others, for example, Ezekiel, but here it highlights the coming of the
one whose rule would fulfil all the desires and efforts of men and women
everywhere and in all ages. Jesus preferred this title above all others as it
summed up his mission. He is one of us and struggles with us. And, having him
with us, means that ‘all will be well.’ The year ends with a description of
frightening events at the end of time, but they are infused with a message of
hope and final victory.
Prayer. Lord, while we long for your coming,
help us to be fully engaged in our tasks and not just “staring into heaven.”
(Acts 1:11) Amen.
