PRAYER MOMENT

LET THE CHILDREN COME
Pause. Be still in
the presence of God.
Reading. “Let the
little children alone, and do not stop them coming to me; for it is to such as
these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” (Matt 19:13-15)
Reflection. A
former Irish president had a daughter aged five who asked her, “Mammy, is it
true we are divided into Protestants and Catholics?” “Yes,” her mother replied
and the child said, “and which are we, I forget?” The child had not yet learnt
division, judgement and hatred between people. For her everyone was a person to
look at and maybe to stare and wonder at. She probably wouldn’t say it but she
might soon come to the view that “adults are silly. They don’t see properly.”
Jesus reminds us of that time in our life when all was wonder. We were full of
questions and openness. We had not yet learnt to settle into secure boxes where
“we” are inside and “they” are outside.
Prayer. Lord
Jesus, I pray for the heart of child, for that openness to people and your
creation which is full of wonder. Help me to be an explorer no matter what my
age. Amen
