PRAYER PAUSE

WELL DONE,
GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “Well done, good and faithful
servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small hings, I will trust you
with greater; come and join in your master’s happiness.” (Matthew 25:14-30)
Reflection. There is an urgency about the parable
of the talents – or, as it is sometimes called, the parable of the money given in trust - that
we can miss if we think it is just about using our gifts. The parables do not
just confirm us in doing what is obvious and reasonable. They shock us. They call
us to “go for bust!” They call us to make an all out effort to make the reign
of God visible and felt in our time and place. It is not enough to set our
sights on a good moral life – admirable as that is. Jesus calls us to “be
perfect”, that is, to stretch ourselves like a athlete who goes for the greater.
Prayer. Lord, help us to reach beyond our
grasp and be restless until we rest in you. Amen.
