PRAYER PAUSE
Monday 12 December 2016
THE MAN WITH
FAR-SEEING EYES
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “The oracle of Balaam, the man with
far-seeing eyes.” (Numbers 24:2…17)
Reflection. Today, the contrast is between
Balaam, the outsider, who in the time of the Exodus, has a dim vision of the
coming of the “star from Jacob” in the distance and the Jewish leaders in Jesus’
time who can see nothing but a challenge
to their position. So the Advent reflection of today centres on the question, “Do
I see the presence of God today? “ Or is this presence too uncomfortable a
thought to consider? Losing faith, something Jesus was well aware would happen,
is a wave, a tsunami, in some places today. The call for us is to penetrate the
dark of our time and discover our faith anew.
Prayer. Lord, I
believe; help my unbelief. Amen.
