PASS THEM BY
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “He came towards them, walking on
the lake. He was going to pass them by but when they saw him they cried out.” (Mark
6:45-52)
Reflection. It is a strange detail. Why would he
want to pass them by? The same occurs in Luke 24 when they come near Emmaus and
“he made as if to go on; but they pressed him to stay with them.” Maybe there
is more to it but it seems to me it is to do with not letting opportunities
slip by? People and events cross our path every day and sometimes we let them
pass by without grasping the moment and reacting. On both occasions we are told
“they were utterly and completely dumfounded” when they realised who he was.
That too happens to us.
Prayer. Lord, you come to us in a thousand
ways. Help us to grasp the opportunities that happen each day. Amen.
