OUR
HOME WITH HIM
Pause. Enter into the stillness of God
within.
Reading: “If anyone loves me they
will keep my word, and my Father will love them and we shall come to them and
make our home with them.” (John 14;21-26)
Reflection. The word ‘home’ has more
than the physical meaning of a place. It connotes a whole network of
relationships and personal memories. It gives roots, identity and security.
Leaving home, whether forced (refugees) or voluntary (economic migrants) is a
heavy decision people make with reluctance. John plays with this when the
disciples ask Jesus (in chapter one), “Master, where do you live?” Jesus doesn’t
answer, “in Mhondoro” or “California.” He says, “come and see.” His home is not
tied to a physical place. It is a relationship; “I am in the Father and the
Father is in me.” The disciples, of course, didn’t get it then but they did
later. We have our homes which nourish us and give us meaning and joy. But we
are also invited to make our home in God as he does in us.
Prayer. Lord, you “stand at the
door and knock.” Help us to open the door to welcome you and invite you make
your home in us. Amen.
